Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a refractory for treating molten pig iron having improved corrosion and oxidation resistances by blending specified percentages of aluminum oxynitride, β-alumina, silicon carbide, graphite and aluminous starting material.

CONSTITUTION: This refractory for treating molten pig iron is composed of by weight, 2-15% aluminum oxynitride, 2-15% β-alumina, 5-20% silicon carbide, 5-25% graphite, 0-7wt.% one or more among Al, ferrosilicon and boron carbide and the balance aluminous starting material such as electromelted alumina or natural alumina. Since aluminum oxynitride improves oxidation and corrosion resistance, this refractory has satisfactory performance as a furnace material for a torpedo ladle car and the material of a pan for treating molten pig iron.
