Abstract:

PURPOSE: To allow beautiful medium contrast display by decreasing the after-image phenomena in the medium contrast display at the time of gradation driving of the liquid crystal optical element constituted by crimping a liquid crystal resin composite which is formed by dispersing and holding a liquid crystal in a resin matrix and controls transmission-scattering a change in refractive index.
CONSTITUTION: The resin material to be used for the liquid crystal resin composite 7 is so formed as to satisfy following formulas (1), (2): Δn2.Δε/(K33.η)>0.0011 (1), 5 (K33/η)0.5>R>(K33/Δε)0.5 (2). Where, the refractive index amino fropy of the liquid crystal Δη is ≥0.18, the average particle size of the liquid crystal to be dispersed and held in the resin matrix is R(μm), the specific dielectric constant anisotropy of the liquid crystal is Δε, the elastic constant is K33 (10-12N), and the viscosity is η (cS1).
