The refrigerator-freezer 1 sends cold air generated in a first evaporator 14 of a high-temperature refrigeration cycle 10 of the dual refrigeration cycle to a refrigerating compartment 3 by a first blower 15, and sends cold air generated in a second evaporator 24 of a low-temperature refrigeration cycle 20 of the dual refrigeration cycle to a freezer compartment 4 by a second blower 25. The refrigerator-freezer includes a prior-cooling step of cooling the refrigerating compartment 3 and the freezer compartment 4 when the defrosting step of the second evaporator 24 is started by a defrosting heater 46. When a temperature of the refrigerating compartment 3 reaches to a predetermined refrigerating-compartment prior-cooling termination temperature Tr2 or lower and a temperature of the freezer compartment 4 reaches to a predetermined freezer-compartment prior-cooling termination temperature Tf3, the prior-cooling step is terminated and the defrosting heater 46 is driven.
