To provide a refrigerator for appropriately keeping chamber temperatures of a refrigerating chamber and a freezing chamber by preventing refrigeration of the refrigerating chamber from being disturbed to no purpose and eliminating insufficient refrigeration of the freezing chamber.

The refrigerator is equipped with a refrigerator main body 1 having the refrigerating chamber 4 and the freezing chamber 3, a door 6 for occluding respective opening parts of storing chamber of this main body in a freely openable and closable manner, a chamber lamp 24, provided in the refrigerating chamber 4, for turning on or off synchronized with opening/closing action of the door 6, a temperature sensor 23, provided in the refrigerating chamber 4, for detecting the temperature in the refrigerating chamber 4, a compressor 18 of which operation is controlled based on the detected temperature by the temperature sensor 23 and a control means for turning on (S6) the chamber lamp 24 when the compressor 18 has stopped for a predetermined period of time or longer (S5) or when operation rate of the compressor 18 is lower than a predetermined value.
