To provide a refrigerator with a weak beam irradiation device whose operation is automatically controlled depending on the existence or not of storage articles requiring weak beam irradiation.
The refrigerator comprises the weak beam irradiation device 15 for irradiating a storage room 4 with weak beams to keep the storage articles fresh and a control means for controlling the drive of the weak beam irradiation device 15. A container 17 is detachably provided within a weak beam irradiation range in the storage room 4 for containing the storage articles. When the container 17 is installed in the storage room 4, the control means drives the weak beam irradiation device 15 to irradiate the storage articles in the storage container 17 with the weak beams. When the container 17 is not installed in the storage room 4, the drive of the weak beam irradiation device 15 is stopped.
