To provide a refrigerator capable of reducing power consumption by efficiently controlling light emission of lighting means to activate a photocatalyst.
A gas sensor for detecting a concentration of an object gas to be treated by using a photocatalyst such as an organic gas and an odor component, is disposed in a storage compartment. A state in the storage compartment is determined on the basis of a detection value of the gas sensor, so that light emission of lighting means to activate the photocatalyst is suppressed or stopped, when the concentration of the object gas is lower than a prescribed value. By determining the necessity of activation of the photocatalyst on the basis of the detected concentration of the object gas, and efficiently controlling the lighting means for activating the photocatalyst, wasteful power usage is suppressed and energy-saving performance can be improved.
