To provide a refrigerator performing refrigeration by switching air passages to a single storage chamber to gain higher cooling efficiency.
A refrigerator includes: a storage chamber; a chiller 21; an axial flow blower 22; a blowing passage 11; and a return passage 15. At least either of the blowing passage 11 or the return passage 15 has blanch passages which are blanched from a cold air-passing passage, and has air passage resistance-controlling means 24 controlling air passage resistance of the branch passages. The storage chamber includes: a first independently-cooled area which is cooled by cold air passing through one of the branch passages; a second independently-cooled area which is cooled even by cold air passing through another of the branch passages; and a commonly-cooled area which is cooled by cold air passing through any of the branch passages, and has a plurality of blowing modes cooling either one of the first independently-cooled area, the second independently-cooled area or the commonly-cooled area, or the combination of the plurality of areas. The axial flow blower 22 is so controlled that an operation point thereof is at a side having a smaller air flow quantity than that at a minimal point in a flow rate/static pressure characteristic curve.
