PURPOSE: To obtain a refrigerator capable of stopping a fan motor when any door is opened and turning on only a lamp in a compartment whose door is opened and of lighting up the compartment at an adequate brightness with the lighting capacity increased.

CONSTITUTION: Switches 14 and 24 and compartment lamps 11a and 11b are respectively provided in two or more freezing and refrigerating compartments, and door open detectors 26 are provided on doors. When the doors are opened or closed, the compartment lamps 11a and 1b are respectively turned on or off by the switches 14 and 24. A fan motor 9 is brought in and out of operation by a fan controller that is controlled by a microcomputer 25 according to signals from the door open detectors 26. A circuit for the compartment lamps 11a and 11b is provided separately from a circuit for the fan motor 9.
