PURPOSE: To provide a refrigerator which may contribute to improvement of reliability in operation of a compressor by a method wherein a low pressure operation of the compressor is prevented and the operation is rapidly transferred to its stable operation state.

CONSTITUTION: There is provided a freezing cycle in which a high pressure container type compressor 1, a condenser 2, a capillary tube 3 acting as a pressure reducing means and an evaporator 4 are connected into a closed circuit. There are provided a condenser 2; a bypass circuit 13 having an adjusting means between it and a suction pipe of the compresser 1; a solenoid valve 15 placed at a connecting part between the condenser 2 and the bypass circuit 13; a suction pressure sensing means 18 acting as an opening or closing timing sensor means for the solenoid valve 15, and a solenoid valve control means 16 for opening or closing the solenoid valve 15.
