Abstract:

PURPOSE: To regenerate a magnet material containing rare earth, having an excellent quality, by mixing a surplus Ca portion to a scrap of a rare earth Co compound magnet, heating and reducing it under a specified condition, and efficiently removing CaO and CaC2 in a reducing reaction substance.

CONSTITUTION: Magnet scrap powder which contains a rare earth metal and consists of an alloy of Co, Co-Cu, Co-Fe-Cu, Co-Fe-Ni-Cu, etc. is mixed with metallic calcium or hydrogenated calcium of 2W4times of requirements of Ca in a stoichiometry which reacts with O2 and C in the scrap. This mixed scrap powder is put into a vessel, and is heated to 900W1,200°C in an inert gas atmosphere by use of a reducing furnace, etc. As a result, O2 in the scrap becomes CaO, C becomes CaC2, and this reductively formed substance is disintegrated in the water and is removed. By this method, the scrap of a rare earth magnet can be regenerated with good yield and an inexpensive treatment charge.
