Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To regenerate β-zeolite, which is used as a catalyst in production of an alkylbenzene useful as an organic intermediate material for various kinds of polymer raw materials, to recover the initial activity when the activity is lowered due to a long time use.
SOLUTION: Re-activation of a β-zeolite catalyst, which is used in a liquid- phase or a gas-liquid mixed-phase alkylation reaction using benzene containing cyclopentadiene or cyclopentadiene together with dicyclopentadiene in not higher than 5ppm by weight in total as raw material benzene is carried out by cleaning with benzene similarly containing cyclopentadiene or cyclopentadiene together with dicyclopentadiene in not higher than 5ppm in total. Consequently, the β-zeolite catalyst whose activity is lowered by alkylation reaction of benzene can be completely reactivated by a simple method.
