PURPOSE: To prevent the emission of undecomposable gases by a method wherein power supply amt. to a second heater is increased to at least a preset value at the start of regeneration, the power supply amt. is decreased to the preset value after a pyrolytic catalyst has reached a predetermined temp. and a first heater is energized to heat and regenerate a physical adsorbing agent.
CONSTITUTION: A housing 1 is provided with a physical adsorbing agent 5 and a first heater 6 for heating the adsorbing agent 5 on the side of an indoor air inlet opening 2 and with a pyrolytic catalyst 7 and a second heater 8 for heating the catalyst 7 on the side of a housing air outlet opening 3. At the start of regeneration, the power supply amt. to the heater 8 is increased to at least a preset value and, after the catalyst 7 has reached a predetermined temp., the power supply amt. thereto is decreased to the preset value to maintain the catalyst 7 at the predetermined temp. The heater 6 is then energized to heat and regenerate the adsorbing agent 5 and, at the end of the regeneration, the heater 6 is deenergized to decrease the temp. of the adsorbing agent 5 to at most the predetermined, after which the heater 8 is deenergized. As a result, the emission of a malodorous, undecomposable gas into the interior of a room can be prevented at the time of the heating and regenerating of the adsorbing agent.
