Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a region separator and a region separating method in which a pixel belonging to a photographic region can be judged accurately.
SOLUTION: Average value AV of image data is determined for pixels in a first image block of a constant size including an interesting pixel (S1). For that first image block, total sum TOTAL-SUM of the difference of image data between adjacent pixels is determined (S2). A decision is then made whether the pixel of interest belongs to a photographic region or not by comparing the total sum TOTAL-SUM with a threshold value TH(AV) for judging a photographic region determined as a function of the average value AV (S4). Furthermore, total sum H-SUM of the density difference in the main scanning direction and total sum V-SUM of the density difference in the sub-scanning direction are determined for pixels in a second pixel block of a constant size (S3). Based on the relation of magnitudes of these total sums, pixels in a thin line region are removed from pixels being judged as the photographic region.
