PURPOSE: To register and retrieve retrieving information without discriminating a "Hiragana" (cursive form of Japanese syllabary) and a "Katakana" (square form of Japanese syllabary) by constituting file retrieving information of a reference "Kana" code or a "Kana" code which has added a discriminating code to the reference "Kana" code.
CONSTITUTION: When file retriving information to be retrieved is inputted from a keyboard 1, it is stored in the second memory 6, transferred to a code eliminating circuit 13, a discriminating code is eliminated from a "Hiragana" (cursive form of Japanese syllabary) code, and a "Katakana" (square form of Japanese syllabary) code is stored in the fourth memory 14 as it is. Accordingly, only a reference "Kana" code is stored in the memory 14. On the other hand, file retrieving information is read out to a recording and reproducing circuit 11 from an optical disk 10, recorded in the third memory 12, and transferred to the code eliminating circuit 13. Subsequently, all is converted to the reference "Kana" code, and inputted to a comparing circuit 15. The retrieving information from the memory 14 is also inputted to the comparing circuit 15, both the informations are compared, and when they coincide with each other, file information corresponding to the retrieving information is read out of the optical disk 10, and displayed on a CRT9 through a code converting circuit 7.
