PURPOSE: To obtain a reinforced optical fiber cord which is light-weight and has a low water absorption and is superior in signal transmission characteristic, by laminating a buffer layer and a thermoplastic resin film on the outside peripheral surface of a core successively and providing a layer consisting of plural tensile strength fibers to cover said resin film and providing a protective layer on this layer of fibers.
CONSTITUTION: A buffer layer 2 and a thermoplastic resin film 3 are laminated successively on the outside peripheral surface of an optical fiber core 1, and silicone rubber materials having a low compression Young's modulus are used as materials of the buffer layer 2. Nylon which has a low water absorption and a relatively low Young's modulus and is superior in flexibility is used as materials of the thermoplastic resin film 3. A tensile strength fiber layer 4 formed with plural uniaxially stretched filament bundles consisting of a super molecular weight polyethylene is provided on the outside peripheral surface of the thermoplastic resin film 3 with the same axis as the optical fiber core 1. The tensile strength fiber layer 4 is covered with a protective layer 5 consisting of the thermoplastic resin film 3.
