PURPOSE: A polymeric composition, obtained by incorporating a regenerated aromatic polyamide uniformly in a polymer in recovering a mixture from a uniform mixture solution of an alkaline metallic salt of the aromatic polyamide with the polymer, and having improved heat resistance, particularly mechanical properties at a high temperature.
CONSTITUTION: An N-alkaline metallic salt of an aromatic polyamide is mixed with a reinforcing polymer, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or an ABS resin, in a common solvent, and the resultant mixture is then recovered from the common solvent. In the process, the dissolved N-alkaline metallic salt of the aromatic polyamide is regenerated as an aromatic polyamide and unformly dispersed in the polymer to give a polymeric composition containing 0.2W20wt% polyamide. Poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide) or poly(p-benzamide) is preferred as the aromatic polyamide. The regeneration is carried out simultaneously with the coagulation of the uniform mixture solution in a protonic poor solvent.
