To support an operator in retrieving a necessary document or a document group which may include the necessary document out of a set of document including a large number of documents.
Document groups contained in a forum/conference room are stored as a document group data base 301 of a prescribed server computer. A document group analyzing device 302 analyzes the document group which is included in every set of documents corresponding to each conference room stored in the data base 301. A totalizing device 303 generates a metaindex 304, a thread index 305 and an index file based on the analysis results by the device 302. A display device 306 displays the document groups in either display form of a keyword view or a thread view by means of the metaindex 304 and the thread index 305.
