To provide a release agent for a flame spread preventing cover, which is excellent in flame retardancy in itself and can peel the cover from an electric wire or cable in a short time irrelevant of the configuration of the covered surface by swelling and softening the cover.
A mixture of 80-50wt.% benzyl alcohol with 20-50wt.% arom. hydrocarbon solvent is blended with a pressure-sensitive adhesive (e.g. an acrylic latex), a fibrous substance (e.g. Kynol or cellulose powder), a liq. org. flame retardant in an amt. of 20 to 40wt.% based on the mixture and a powedery inorg. flame retardant in an amt. of 100 to 200wt.% based on the mixture to prepare a release agent. Usable examples of the lig. org. flame retardant include halogen-contg. phosphoric esters and chlorinated paraffins, while usable examples of the powdery inorg. flame retardant include aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide.
