To provide a release paper that has smoothness equivalent to polylaminate release paper without using plastic film, and by which recycling of release paper is facilitated.SOLUTION: Provided is a release paper, which is a release paper 1 having a smoothing agent layer 3 formed on a paper substrate 2 and a release agent layer 4 formed on the smoothing agent layer 3, and in which the Bekk smoothness based on JIS P 8119 of the release agent layer 4 side of the release paper 1 is 10,000 seconds or more, or, the developed area ratio Sdr of the interface with regard to the surface roughness on the surface of the release agent layer 4 side of the release paper 1 using a laser microscope in accordance with JIS B 0632: 2001 (ISO 11562: 1996) and ISO 16610-21: 2011 is 0.16 or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
