To detect the remaining amount of roll paper by a simple constitution without turning the whole roll paper storage section in the case that a printer is installed on a table and the case the printer is installed in a state of being hung on a wall.
A remaining amount detector for the roll paper includes: a mounting frame which is swingingly supported on an outer surface of a side wall of the roll paper storage section by a support shaft and rotated on the support shaft by own weight; an arm which is swingingly supported by the mounting frame, on which a protrusion inserted into an arc-shaped hole of a side wall is provided at a swinging end side, and which is operated by inserting the protrusion into a cylindrical winding core of the roll paper on condition that the remaining amount of the roll paper reaches a constant amount or smaller due to the consumption of the roll paper; and a detection means for detecting that the remaining amount of the roll paper reaches the constant amount or smaller on the basis of the operation of the arm.
