Title:
REMELTED AND CHILLED CAMSHAFT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6415345
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To manufacture a remelted and chilled camshaft having an excellent attenuation capacity of vibration by conducting remelt-chill treatment on the cam surface of the camshaft made up of graphite flake cast iron specifying a CE value, an area factor, a base structure.

CONSTITUTION: Remelt-chill treatment is conducted to a part or the whole of the cam surface of the camshaft made up of graphite flake cast iron being Bainite structure containing a CE value ≥4.3wt.%, graphite flakes of 7W18 area factor % and the base of 15W45 residual austenite %. In addition, the graphite flake cast iron is preferred to contains 3.30W4.00wt.% C, 2.0W3.5wt.% Si, ≤about 1.5wt.% Mn, 0.1W0.5wt.% Mo, ≤about 1wt.% Ni, ≤about 0.15wt.% P, ≤about 0.1wt.% S and Fe of the residue. The noise level is very low in an engine provided with a remelt and chilled camshaft by this manufacture.
