Title:
REMOLTEN CHILLED CAMSHAFT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01190907
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the pitching resistance by forming an air-cooled chilled layer by preheating a casted iron alloy member and then melting the cam surface layer part again after said preheating. CONSTITUTION:After a camshaft member made of a casted iron alloy is preheated, said member is molten again by the irradiation of a high density energy heat source. Then, a chilled hardened layer 3 is formed through air cooling. A heat-influenced layer 4 after remelting is formed to a hardened layer consisting of the mixed structure of martensite, bentonite transformation phase, and troostite having a thickness of 0.5-2mm. Therefore, the formation of pearlite structure is prevented, and the pitching resistance can be improved.
