To realize detection of a starting point of a user's gesture operation accurately even with a cheap controlled device while suppressing battery consumption of a remote control.
While a key code signal from an infrared remote control is received by 101, the remote control itself emitting light is photographed with a camera 103. A position detection part 104, using timing information received by a decode part 102, detects a position of the remote control easily and with high accuracy by extracting a portion with a brightness change from the photographed picture. A gesture recognition part recognizes the user's operation by tracking a motion of the image at the position. A control part 110 receives both the control by the received remote control key code and the control by the recognized user's operation.
