To provide a remote meter reading system in which a management center sets up an optimal communication route for multiple slave units without requiring the trouble of reconstructing the communication route on site.SOLUTION: A remote meter reading system 1 includes a slave unit 2 corresponding to a meter reading meter M, a master unit 3 communicating with the slave unit 2, a management center 4 communicating with the master unit 3, and an information terminal 5, the slave unit 2 has identification information 21 and the information terminal 5 reads the identification information 21 on the slave unit 2, acquires location information from a GPS satellite S, and transmits the information to the management center 4, and the management center 4 detects the optimal communication route of the slave unit 2 on the basis of the location information, sends route information corresponding to the optimal communication route to the slave unit 2, stores the route information received by the slave unit 2, and executes the subsequent communication.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
