This remote monitoring device comprises: the photographing device supported by a support shaft at an outside of a car of the elevator; an optical axis adjusting means for driving an optical axis of the photographing device perpendicularly and horizontally with respect to the support shaft; a transmission means for transmitting a picture signal photographed by the photographing device to an elevator control panel; and a display means mounted to the monitoring device side and displaying the picture signal transmitted to the elevator control panel by the transmission means. The monitoring device outputs an operation command of the optical axis adjusting means via a communication line to the optical axis adjusting means, and the optical axis adjusting means drives the photographing device based on the operation command.
