Title:
REMOVAL OF ARSENIC FROM PETROLEUM FRACTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5718784
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To specific polyvalent metal is added to a petroleum fraction to inhibit the formation of contaminant such as gums and the remaining of unreacted peroxides and remove the arsenic included efficiently.

CONSTITUTION: A petroleum fraction, e.g., pyrolytic gasoline, is treated with a hydroperoxide such as cumene hydroperoxide in the presence of a heavy metal, which has 2 or higher valency, is at a higher valency state than the lowest valency and has a high oxidation-reduction potential, to oxidze the arsenic included in the petroleum fraction and remove it. The amount of the heavy metal added is preferably 1W100 times the molar amount of the hydroperoxide and the amount of the hydroperoxide is 1W1,000 times the molar quantity of the arsenic atom. The heavy metal is used either in the solid form, such as cobalt (III) oxide or in the liquid form such as cobalt naphthenate and, when used in the solid form, it is regenerated from the low valency state to the high one for recycling.
