Title:
REMOVING APPARATUS FOR HYDROGEN ISOTOPE IN LIQUID METAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5518533
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To keep the concentration of hydrogen and thorium in sodium low, by providing the magnetic separator having metal grain absorbing hydrogen isotope within, on the flowing passage of fluidized metal.

CONSTITUTION: The zirconium metal grain 5 having several 10 μm of grain diameter, is thrown from the grain throwing tube 6 through the valve 7. The valve 8, 9 connecting purifying system 4 and the magnetic separator 1, are shut preliminary and sodium is flowed operating the magnetic pump 11 and then, the grain 5 is caught on the steel wool mesh 2 by magnetic force. Next, the valve 12, 13 are shut and the valve 8, 9 are opened and then, sodium containing hydrogen, is flowed on the magnetic separator. Hydrogen in sodium is reacted with zirconium and hydride is made, 0.02g of hydrogen is absorbed per 1g of zirconium at maximum.
