To remove an existing padding material quickly without causing any trouble such as cracks on a base material of a crushing member such as a crushing roller.
A degraded padded section is removed by scanning a worn existing padding material 8 of crushing members 1, 12 by an arc 5 of a plasma gauging device 3 while securing a remained padding material 9 having a designated thickness t from a worn surface 6 of a base material 2. The existing padding material 8 is difficult to remove with a general rotary grinding wheel since consisting of a raw material with high wear resistance and having hardness further increased by a work-hardening phenomenon, however, the arc 5 can shortly remove the existing padding material 8 at high removing efficiency. Furthermore, the trouble such as breaking and cracks on the base material 2 caused by processing heat and fusion heat can be prevented to the utmost extent since the remained padding material 9 exerts an effect of a heat shielding material for preventing excessive transmission of the processing heat by the arc 5 and the fusion heat upon melting a newly-established padding material 10 to the base material 2.
