PURPOSE: To reduce the cost of repair by subjecting the damaged part of a casting mold to spot facing then providing divided chambers of refractories thereto and subjecting further the damaged part to thermit welding then building up the welded part with a welding rod for casting.
CONSTITUTION: The damaged part 1 of the casting mold is subjected to spot facing 3 at plural points formed with about 30W100mm holes into a zigzag shape by drilling. The outside surface of the mold is enclosed with a thick steel plate 4 or the circumference is enclosed with refractory bricks to prevent the leakage during thermit melting when the damaged part arrives at the outside wall surface from the inside wall surface. The periphery of the damaged part is then enclosed with the refractory bricks, etc. to form an independent chamber. A thermit material is packed into such chamber and welding is executed and further the welded part is subjected to build-up welding by the welding rod for casting after removing the slag. Since the thermit welded part is partitioned, the repaired part is securely repaired and the surface part prevents welding of a molten steel, etc. by the welding of the welding rod for casting. The cost of repairing the mold is thus reduced.
