Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent the formation of a hot spot in a catalyst bed in a reaction zone during the suspension of operation.
CONSTITUTION: This process for preparing a hydrocarbon comprises the steps of: feeding a mixture of hydrogen with carbon monoxide into a reactor in its reaction zone at an elevated temperature and pressure; and allowing the hydrogen and carbon monoxide to react in the presence of a catalyst retained in the reaction zone, wherein a reservoir of a hydrogen-rich gas is maintained at a pressure above the pressure of the feed mixture and the reservoir is connected to the reaction zone so that the hydrogen-rich gas flows from the reservoir into the reaction zone.
