Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a repellent effective for a blood-sucking and biting injurious insects including a horsefly, a flea, a tick and lice by using a specific partially new compound for repelling an injurious insect continuous excellent repelling effect.
SOLUTION: This repellent uses 3-substituted-p-menthane (or p-menthene) derivative expressed by the formula I [R is OH or hydroxyethyl; R2 is H, OH, hydroxyethyl or a 1-3C alkoxy; broken line is a double bond, a single bond, and R1 is absent when the broken line is a double bond and R1 is H or OH when the broken line is a single bond (when the broken line is a single bond and R2 is H, R and R1 are not simultaneously OH)]. In the compound of the formula I, a compound of the formula II (R4 is H OH, hydroxymethyl, etc.; R3 is H or OH), especially new compound of the formula III is preferable. Preferably, a content of the repelling compound is about 0.1-90wt.% of the repellent. A flavor composition can be prepared by mixing the repellent with a flavor.
