To provide a reproducing device capable of starting section reproduction at a high speed without decoding a reference frame to be needed in decoding of the start frame of the section reproduction when starting the optional section reproduction of a stream.
In order to reproduce the optional section of the stream, a PlayList registering the position information of a start frame and a stop frame for performing the section reproduction and the position information of a reference frame to be needed in decoding of the start frame, and the reference frame to be needed in decoding of the start frame, are stored in a storage medium. When starting the section reproduction, by using the position information of the reference frame to be needed in the decoding of the start frame registered in the PlayList, acquiring the reference frame from the storage medium, and referring to it, decoding is performed from the start frame without performing the decoding of a reference frame to be needed in the decoding of the start frame, and the section reproduction is started at a high speed.
