Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently use a common up link transmission resource and to avoid collision between users.
SOLUTION: The user of a network sends a reservation request onto the control flow channel of a satellite up link and requests the reservation of a slot that can be used for transmitting data on a main flow channel. Relating to a satellite 26, the reservation request is received through an asynchronous transfer mode cell exchange means 28 and a media access controller 30 processes the reservation request. It is judged whether the reservation request is permitted or not, based on data quantity from a user, the number of other users using a main flow channel, the data concentration state of a destination down link port, the available band width capacity of a satellite down link and the flow rate of data. A reservation message is sent to the user. When it is permitted, the message contains information on the transmission time of data, a frequency and continuing time. When it becomes transmission time, data from the user are transmitted onto the down link.
