PURPOSE: To allow the system to retrieve quickly and accurately a residence telephone number and layout information from a retrieval object location or a person by registering/updating a user ID and a residence telephone number to the system from a user telephone set.

CONSTITUTION: When a user ID and a residence telephone number are inputted by a user telephone set 1, the information is given to a control section 20 of a computer 10 via a private branch of exchange 2. A residence file update section 21 of the control section 20 updates a residence file 11 and the residence in the unit of persons is registered usually in the file 11. When an input device 13 is used to input a retrieval object location or person, the control section 20 retrieves a residence file retrieval section 22 and a seat table file 12 to display a residence telephone number and layout information on a display device 14. Thus, the destination of a person being a message object is retrieved quickly and accurately.
