To make good use of a sheet by making it possible to determine the residual quantity of a long roll sheet through a convenient device without remodeling a large ink jet printer.
The ink jet printer using a roll sheet comprises a section for measuring the moved length of a sheet in a plotter, means for operating the residual quantity of a sheet based on the measured length, an indicator indicating the residual quantity of a roll sheet thus operated, a unit for inputting the length of a roll sheet at the time of starting use and the product number of the roll sheet, and a small printer for printing the residual quantity of a used roll sheet, the product number of the roll sheet, and at least the residual quantity of a used roll sheet at the date when the apparatus is used onto a peelable label.
