This resin for a coating material is characterized by having 1-15 wt.% range content of a multi-vinyl monomer in its monomer composition, using a mercaptane containing hydroxyl or carboxyl group as a chain transfer agent in its polymerization and having ≤20,000 weight-average molecular weight(Mw) of the produced polymer and also ≥3 (Mw/Mn), the ratio of the weight average-molecular weight(Mw) to its number-average molecular weight (Mn).
