PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition useful for a protective layer of a thermal recording medium excellent in waterproofness and waterproof blocking.SOLUTION: The resin composition contains a carboxyl group-containing polyvinyl alcohol based resin and a polyamidepolyamine-epihalohydrin based resin, where the number n of structural units represented by the specified general formula (1) in the polyamidepolyamine-epihalohydrin based resin is 1.5 or more on average.
