To provide a resin composition which is suitable for use in a cationic electrodeposition paint and comprises a cationic resin having a hydrolytic stability and containing active methylene groups and a compound or resin having α,β-unsaturated carbonyl groups and to provide a paint.
The composition comprises a combination of (a) a cationic resin having, in the molecule, tertiary amino groups and amino groups each acylated with an acyl group having an active methylene group and (b) a compound or resin having α,βunsaturated carbonyl groups in the molecule. This composition is dispersed in an aqueous medium containing a neutralizing agent and the dispersion is mixed with other ingredients to prepare a cationic electrodeposition paint. Active methylene groups in the component (a) undergo addition to unsaturated bonds in the component (b) through the Michael reaction to give a crosslinked cured article.
