To provide an environment-friendly resin composition for coating material having high practicability, that is, capable of forming a coating film excellent in finished outer appearance, curability at a low temperature, weather resistance, water resistance, solvent resistance, impact resistance and the like even on a plastic material, and to provide a coating method using the composition.
The resin composition for coating material comprising a nonaqueous dispersion-type copolymer (C) and a blocked isocyanate (D) which is blocked by an active methylene-type blocking agent. In the composition, the nonaqueous dispersion- type copolymer (C) consists of the following: a copolymer (A) obtained by copolymerizing a polymerizable monomer having an unsaturated double bond, having a weightaverage molecular weight of 10,000-200,000 and a glass transition temperature of -40 to 20°C, and soluble in an organic solvent; and dispersed particles (B) obtained by copolymerizing a polymerizable monomer having an unsaturated double bond in the presence of an organic solvent and insoluble in the organic solvent in the copolymer (A). The compounding ratio of (B) to the total solid components of (A) and (B) is 25-65 wt.%. And, a coating method using the composition is provided.
