To provide a resin composition for a slide member with excellent friction and wear characteristics and the slide member using it, under various different usage conditions such as a dry friction condition and an oil dipped or oil lubricated condition.

This resin composition is composed of a polyimide resin for 5-25 wt.%, magnesium silicate for 1-20% and tetrafluoroethylene for the balance. The slide member is structured by filling and coating a pore space and a surface of a porous metal sintered layer 2 formed on a steel metal plate 1 with the resin composition, or by filling and coating a mesh of metal net body and its surface with the resin composition.
