To provide a method for effectively utilizing bread crumbs disposed of as an industrial waste; and a molded article which contains bread crumbs, has a surface not roughened, and has a high mechanical strength.
A composition prepared by compounding bread crumbs, i.e., a food waste, with an oil-and-fat adsorbent and a thermoplastic resin melting at 170°C or lower is thermally mixed and kneaded with a screw-type extruder to cause the adsorbent to adsorb and absorb an oil-and-fat component contained in the bread crumbs; thus mixed and kneaded composition is melted under overheating and molded to give a low-cost molded article which does not allow the oil-and-fat component to float up to its surface and has a high mechanical strength. The molded article can be widely used as a tray for a bread shop, a bread packaging material, a loose cushioning material, daily sundries, a treating agent for animal excrements, etc.
