Abstract:

To obtain a compound useful as a base material for perfumes and useful in the field of pharmaceutical formulation by reacting the immixture of stereoisomeric alcohols with an acylating agent in the presence of a hydrolysate in a biphasic hydroorganic medium and treating the reaction mixture under specific conditions to efficiently resolve the immixture of stereoisomeric alcohols.

The immixture of stereoisomeric alcohols consisting of the immixture of alcohol enantiomers such as 2-phenyl-1-propanol or 1-phenylethanol of the formula: ROH [R is a (substituted) monovalent hydrocarbon or the like; OH is carried or not carried by an asymmetric carbon] is made to react with an acylating agent of the formula [(n)=1-3; R1 is a lower alkyl; R2 is a lower alkyl, alkenyl or the like when (n)=1, and R2 is a lower alkylene or alkenylene when (n)=2, and R2 is a triylalkyl when (n)=3] in the presence of a hydrolysate such as a lipase in a biphasic hydroorganic medium, the esterified isomers are isolated from the non-esterified isomers, and subsequently one of the esters of alcohol isomers and the other are obtained. Thus, the immixture of stereoisomeric alcohols are resolved.
