PURPOSE: To make it possible to process a work without indexing the rest by a method wherein the rest which is capable of clamping selectively journal sections and a pin section of the crankshaft of the work to be processed is provided.

CONSTITUTION: A cutter unit 2 is rotated around the work 4 by a drive source to thereby cut the pin section 4a of the work 4 with a cutter 2a. When the body of the rest 5 is closed, the journal sections 4a of the work 4 are separated from each other in the vertical direction with respect to journal clamps 5a and 5b for clamping the journal sections 4b from on both sides and pin clamping sections 5b and 5c are provided so as to clamp the journal sections 4b or the pin section 4a of the work 4 selectively. Thus it is possible to process the work without indexing the rest.
