The retainer 10 for the tapered roller bearing includes: a small diameter annular section; a large diameter annular section 12; and a plurality of pillars circumferentially mutually disposed at intervals to coaxially connect the small diameter annular section and the large diameter annular section 12 in an axial direction and at predetermined intervals. Furthermore, a plurality of pockets 14 for storing tapered rollers 4 are circumferentially formed of a space surrounded by the small diameter annular section, the large diameter annular section 12 and an adjacent pair of pillars. In the large diameter annular section 12, a radial outside edge 26 on a third end surface 22 facing the inside of the pocket 14 on the large diameter annular section 12 and a slope 25 that prevents the tapered roller 4 stored in the pocket 14 from being brought into contact with the large diameter end surface 4b are formed.
