In the retractable writing utensil, the projected state of the writing part 21' is maintained by engaging a presser 40, which is energized backwards by an energizing member 61 and secured to a securing part 12 on the peripheral wall of a barrel through sinking towards the centripetal direction of the barrel together with its forward sliding against an energizing force of the presser and equipped with a clip 50 supported to the securing part 12 and a spherical contact part 51 arranged being located ahead the supporting point of the clip 50 and between the clip 50 and the peripheral surface of the barrel, with the securing part 12 and the writing part 21' is retracted by disengaging the presser 40 from the securing part 12 and sliding it backwards, a protrusion 12, which contacts with or approached near to the outer peripheral surface of the barrel at the securing of the presser 40 to the securing part 52, is provided at the side more ahead than the spherical contact part 51 of the clip 50.
