PURPOSE: To make the production of an electronic newspaper efficient by digitizing a signal from a newspaper based on categories, sending the signal to a home use terminal equipment memory, and giving the data to a television receiver, on the screen which displays the data.

CONSTITUTION: Signals of a newspaper are digitized and sent to a terminal equipment memory of each house. The data are given to a television receiver and read by displaying the data on the screen. In this case, columns of the newspaper are classified into items such as politics, social columns, education, science,..., television radio programs. Thus, the required part is immediately observed by retrieving the data based on the categories. Furthermore, the newspaper is edited for display and observed easily on the screen. Moreover, voice data are added to the column data and not only characters or pictures are observed on the screen but also the articles are read in sound. Then only the voice data are recorded on a tape recorder, and character data of the newspaper are simply utilized, and this method is effective for reading the newspaper while commutating and for reading by a visually handicapped person to obtain the newspaper articles.
