PURPOSE: To obtain a retrieving device and its method capable of retrieving similar data independently of the hierarchical depth of links in which data are stored.
CONSTITUTION: Data together with an ID number for specifying the data are stored in a data base 1, the link information of the data is stored in a link information managing part 2, the chain-like retrieving route of data is stored in a history managing part 3 as retrieving history, and the identification(ID) item of retrieved data is displayed on a display part 4. Then data are classified in classes, a list of data belonging to the class is stored in a sorting part 5 as class information and a retrieving part 6 refers to both the data class and the retrieving history and selects ad shows data having similarity to the retrieving history.
