Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus allowing a large payload to be launched onto a desired orbit in a timely manner and return with aircraft-like serviceability.
CONSTITUTION: This reusable flyback satellite system 10 includes a refly apparatus 16 and an accelerating and positioning apparatus 14. The refly apparatus provides acceleration and injection into orbit, on-orbit functions and services for supporting a payload, de-orbiting, re-entering, and landing on a runway. The accelerating and positioning apparatus is attached to a carrier aircraft and releasably supports the refly apparatus.
