To provide a reversible thermal recording medium having a high coloring density and a high stability of a colored image and being excellent in erasability.
The reversible thermal recording medium is constituted by providing on a substrate a reversible thermal recording layer containing a reversible thermal composition for which an electron-donating color developing compound and an electron-accepting compound are used and whch is capable of forming a state of being colored relatively according to a difference in a heating temperature and/or a cooling speed after heating. In this medium, a compound of formula is used as a coloring and color-extinguishment control agent in the reversible thermal recording layer. (In formula (1), X denotes a bonding group expressed by -HNCO-, -CONH- or -HNCONH- and R1 and R2 denote 6 or higher C saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon groups respectively independently, while the hydrocarbon groups may have substituents respectively.).
