Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary actuator by which a shift-by-wire system can be easily mounted on a vehicle while allowing a shift range to be manually switched at the time of a failure.SOLUTION: A housing 32 of an actuator 10 has a through hole 75 into which one end part 55 of a rotating shaft 54 of a motor 30 at a side opposite to a deceleration mechanism 31 has been inserted. A seal 76 prevents a solid and a liquid from going back and forth between the inside and outside of the housing 32 through the through hole 75. With this constitution, a shift range can be switched by manually rotating one end part 55 of a rotating shaft 54 from the outside of the housing 32 by removing the seal 76 at the time of an operation failure. Furthermore, a hole for connecting the actuator 10 to a shift range mechanism may be merely a connection hole 43, which is formed in an outer wall of a case 42 of a transmission in a conventional actuator. Thus, it suffices to perform only a relatively small-scaled improvement for fixing the actuator 10 to the case 42 of the transmission.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
